The Best Additional Security Measures Other Than Locks

Of course, you are. We spend months, years, and even our whole lives building homes, collecting valuables, and preserving precious memories. It goes without saying that keeping them secure is what we aim for. Yet we invest our confidence in a few locks. We depend on these devices to protect our property. There is an answer. Locks are not the only thing standing between your precious possessions and a burglar’s malicious intentions. You can enhance the security of your premises through an array of additional security measures. Some of these are:
Door Bolts
If you have a spring latch or even a standard deadbolt as the only locking mechanism for your entrance door, you might consider adding door bolts in the mix. The reasons are various. Door bolts come in various shapes and sizes. You can easily choose the one that fits your particular requirement. Mounted on the inside surface of the door, these devices are less easily accessible to an outside intruder.
Lock and key mechanisms can be compromised noiselessly. Any skilled lock picker may come with the requisite tools to perform the task. However, it’s harder to compromise keyless door bolts without making a noise. Door bolts may seem simple and primitive, at first glance, and may require manual effort to operate, but they’re extremely useful in precarious situations.
Door Chains
Another seemingly simple security measure is the door chain. On a surface-level examination, a door chain may not seem like much of a preventive measure. Moderate blunt force might compromise it. However, some higher quality varieties take enormous effort to break. Like door bolts, door chains are latched to the inside surface of the door and can provide additional protection in case of an attempted break-in. In case of a breach, the broken chain can provide evidence of breaking and entering as well.
When it comes to door chains, it’s imperative to mention their uses. Door chains should not be, under any circumstances, used to see who’s on the other side of the door. For that, you need to install a peephole or a lookout. Opening the door, however slightly, can make you and your house vulnerable to a potential attack.
Sash Jammers
Many insurance companies require the installation of sash jammers to ensure additional security. It is, therefore, important that you check your insurance terms for any such requirement. If there is such a requirement, there is no choice. But if there isn’t, it doesn’t hurt to have extra security.
A sash jammer is a device that is installed on the inner surface of the door. It consists of a base and a short arm. The arm can be turned up or sideways to latch or fix itself against the frame. Usually used on doors and windows, sash jammers can prevent forced entry even, sometimes, in the absence of the lock.
